Roe's Food Store
back in the day we would have family get togethers in the road side parks and play softball and the sailors would join us. from the base i think in corpus. the beach was so different then of course no fee for the beach. i remember my grandmother sending us to piggly wiggly store before it became i think johnsons drug store or across the street. lovely town and lovely times.
We use to sit in the car and wait while our mother went grocery shopping at Roes. My little brother Randy use to whistle and say hubba hubba baby at any woman that passed by ... he was only 5 at the time LOL One trip I remember he slipped out and went into the store, we didn't discover him missing until we unloaded groceries. My mom went back to get him and they had given him candy and ice cream, he was upset that he had to leave!
ReplyDeleteA nice little store with a great atmosphere. Drugs & hardware were right where you came in. The produce was located on the east wall - the frozen food & meat section was on the north. They sold Christmas trees during the Holiday Season, and they also distributed H&S Green Stamps.
